G Cooke Coachbuilders was established in 1974 by Geoff Cooke, following an apprenticeship with the well-known bespoke motor body builders J.H. Jennings and Son of Sandbach. It was here that Geoff learned his trade, working alongside experienced tradespeople on projects that demanded real precision and care.
Across 13 years with the firm he built a wide range of commercial vehicle bodies, from mobile libraries and motorhomes through to cattle containers and horseboxes. That variety gave him a genuinely broad understanding of structural design, knowledge he carried directly into the company he went on to found.
That grounding in bespoke vehicle building still shapes the custom horseboxes we build today. It’s why our horseboxes for sale continue to be finished with the same attention Geoff learned as a young apprentice.
Horse transport soon became Cooke’s specialised field, with the company manufacturing quality horseboxes for sale built around each customer’s individual requirements rather than a one size fits all approach. Every build started with a genuine conversation about how the vehicle would actually be used.
That attention to detail, paired with first-class customer service, meant a loyal customer base built up steadily over the years. Word spread largely through recommendation, owners who trusted the quality of their bespoke horseboxes telling others in the equestrian community what Cooke could do.
Demand grew well beyond the UK too, with horseboxes shipped to Ireland, Norway, Sweden and Germany. That international reach speaks to how far the reputation for genuinely bespoke horseboxes travelled, long before the company had any kind of online presence to help it along.
In 2015, Matthew Cooke took over the reins from his father Geoff, taking the company forward with fresh ideas and design innovation. He upholds the Cooke commitment to a professional and technical service, responding to customers quickly and accurately while maintaining the reputation for high standards and quality workmanship built up over decades.
